🚆 Russia and China are linked by train again

🚆 Great news, especially for residents of Eastern Siberia and Transbaikalia: after a six-year break, passenger rail service between Russia and China has resumed. The first train departed on 8 March on the Zabaikalsk — Manzhouli route. Service had been suspended in 2020 due to the pandemic. The train will run year-round twice a week, on Wednesdays and Sundays, crossing the border via Zabaikalsk (Russia) and Manzhouli in northeastern China. Through-cars from Irkutsk and Chita have also been launched, letting travellers reach China directly without changes. Travel time from Irkutsk is about 1 day and 13 hours. The return of rail travel should increase tourist flows — the train is one of the simplest ways to cross the border in the Far East. ✈️ For travellers it's another alternative to flying, especially for combined routes across Siberia and northeastern China.
